Azerbaijan signs Singapore Convention on Mediation

Vienna, April 28 (United Nations Information Service) - Azerbaijan signed the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements, also known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation," at the United Nations headquarters in New York on April 23, 2026. The convention has 22 contracting states, with Azerbaijan being the 60th signatory.
The Singapore Convention on Mediation promotes international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method for resolving commercial disputes by providing a coordinated legal framework, ensuring the applicability and enforcement of international settlement agreements arising from mediation.
This convention is open for signature, ratification, acceptance, approval or accession by all countries and regional economic integration organizations. The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCTAD) is the core legal body in the field of international trade law within the United Nations system. Its mission is to eliminate legal barriers to international trade through gradual modernization and coordination of trade laws. It has written legal texts in multiple key areas, such as international commercial dispute resolution, e-commerce, bankruptcy, international payments, sales of goods, transportation law, procurement, and infrastructure construction.
UNCITRAL also provides technical assistance for legal reform activities, including assisting member states in reviewing and assessing their legal reform needs, as well as drafting legislation required to implement the UNCITRAL text.
